BIC2g:December_2010 Frequently Asked Questions
Are there specific hardware specs for running these images?
This image is based on the 64-bit version of Microsoft Server 2008 Standard Edition. You must have a recent and VT enabled processor. You must test the hardware that you intend to install this image on to ensure that it is compatible. VMware has provided a 64-bit compatibility utility to test your hardware to ensure that the BIC2g image will be able to run.
Please review the VMware document titled "Hardware and firmware requirements for 64bit guest operating systems" for more information regarding 64-bit OS hardware requirements.
- Quad-Core Intel i5 or i7 processor
- 8GB RAM
- 100GB Internal 3.0 SATA Drive
- Modern multi-core CPU that is 64-bit VM compatible
- 4 GB RAM
- 80 GB of unfragmented free disk space
- Any VMware-supported version of Windows or Linux. Please note that the host OS can be either 32-bit or 64-bit.
You are licensed to run one copy of the BIC2g environment on Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition in one virtual machine. It is not licensed "per user". You cannot copy it (backups are permitted). You cannot give it to anybody else and you cannot sell it. You cannot use it in a production environment. It is for sales demonstrations and for developing proofs of concepts.
Can we copy the image for two sales people if they are not using it at the same time?
You cannot under the licensing terms of Microsoft Server 2008. To purchase additional copies of the BIC2g image, contact Vlamis Software Solutions, Inc.
What if I have my own license of Microsoft Server 2008, can I get a discount?
Under the licensing rules from Microsoft, we cannot provide this image to you without selling you a license for Microsoft Server 2008.
How long will my order take?
Normally you will receive the e-mail with the download links and a scan of your Windows Server license within 1 or 2 business days after the order is processed and approved by PayPal. We do not maintain a large inventory of Microsoft Server licenses. If we run out of licenses from many simultaneous orders, your order may be delayed for as long as 10 to 12 business days while we wait for delivery from Microsoft.
60GB?? As a download? That will never work.
The image is a self-extracting compressed file split into 36 separate 700mb files. It is only 24 gigabytes total. It does take a few hours to download, but it is not painful. There is an MD5 checksum provided for the files, so you can verify that you have good downloads and can just download the one broken file instead of re-downloading the whole thing.
Do I have to have a PayPal account to order?
Not at all. Here is what you need to do:
- Visit our website at http://www.vlamis.com/bic2g and click the "Buy Now" button.
- Select the Option you wish to purchase.
- Enter your Oracle Partner Company ID.
- Click the "Add to Cart" button.
- Verify that your order is correct and click "Checkout".
- Click the "Pay with debit or credit carde" link located at the lower-center of the screen.
- Enter your shipping and credit card information and complete the purchase.
However, if you are using a credit card that is tied to an existing PayPal account, PayPal may require you to login to that account to complete your order.
I am having problems getting PayPal to accept my credit card. Who do I contact?
You should probably contact your credit card company first. Their number should be on the back of your credit card. You can also contact PayPal at 1-402-935-2050 4:00 AM PST to 10:00 PM PST Monday through Friday and 6:00 AM PST to 8:00 PM PST Saturday and Sunday.
PayPal has placed my order under review. Why?
We don't know. It appears to be random. We have no control over the review process. PayPal occasionally places orders on hold to "review" the payment. This process has taken between 12 hours and as long as three days in our experience. Until this review is complete, we cannot complete your order.
Can I just phone in an order or send you a purchase order?
We are unable to accept telephone orders or purchase orders at this time.
The VHD and "install it yourself" versions of BIC2g were simply too unweildy to maintain and drastically increased the costs of running the program. These options were ended to allow us to continue to provide you the BIC2g image.
How are these images supported?
WE DO NOT PROVIDE PHONE SUPPORT. Technical support is provided for the installation of the virtual demonstration environment and starting of the virtual machine and the Oracle software. We do not provide support of the individual demonstrations. Support is limited to email correspondence with email@example.com. We need to have as much information as possible so we can try and provide you a timely solution to the problem. Please include the following information with any support request:

- Can you connect to the internet from withing VM?

Can we use an online forum to help each other with tech support?
Yes. There are two Oracle forums created specifically for this purpose. BIC2G:BI image support and Hyperion:EPM image support.
Can I call you with just a quick question about _____?

We have been assured by Oracle that the error is harmless and can be ignored.
I am having problems working with the network settings at a client site. What should I do?
Download this PDF document adapted from Oracle's documentation that explains how to set up VMWare's networking to work with and without a local network.
