Unable to Send Us E-mail?

If you have tried to send us e-mail, but it has "bounced" back to you, please look at the e-mail you received back. It may have an error very similar to this:

554 5.7.1 The server sending your mail [XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] does not have a reverse DNS entry. Connection Rejected. Please contact your Dial-Up/DSL/Network ISP Provider.

If that has happened, please use one of the alternative contact methods listed below.

What Happened?

As everyone knows, e-mail worldwide has been plagued with Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (UCE), or commonly known as "spam*". As a method of reducing the amount of spam received by it's customers, our ISP has decided to reject e-mails from mail servers with incorrect reverse DNS entries. Spammers tend to use mail servers that are incorrectly configured, and this has been found to be a very effective spam fighting technique. Unfortunately, it has a side effect of rejecting some legitimate e-mails.

Our internet provider has programmed its mail servers to relate an e-mail's originating IP (Internet Protocol) address to a valid domain name or Web address by looking it up in a DNS database. If it does not find a valid owner, the message is rejected. Each IP address maps to a domain name, but depending on the architecture of the network--whether a server answers to multiple domain names--the mapping may or may not go through. The method is effective because many spammers use fake IP addresses to elude detection.

Your internet provider or IT department should be notified of this error. Forward them the return e-mail you received with the error listed above. This will help them locate the e-mail server that is improperly configured. Many internet providers have begun filtering using this method, and many more have it in their immediate plans. Until your mail servers are properly configured, you will start to see more and more rejections.
