Changing the Way Executives Visualize Corporate Data with Oracle Business Intelligence 11g

Presented by Dan Vlamis

Oracle Business Intelligence 11g is a game changer when it comes to creating visually attractive business intelligence dashboards and applications. This monumental release includes best-of-breed products which enable pervasive consumption of data by users in everything from score cards to dashboards to mobile devices.

One of the new and most important ways of visualizing operational and warehouse data includes the use of maps, with full geographic drill-down, color coding, and spatial analysis capabilities. Maps are now just a pre-integrated type of view in your dashboard and don't require special coding. The bundling of the NAVTEQ® map with Oracle Business Intelligence solutions provides business executives with a set of industry-leading data and tools that enable faster and better decision making to give their businesses a competitive edge.

Join us for this executive session to discover how new visualization capabilities in Oracle Business Intelligence 11g enable new ways of analyzing your data. New OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) capabilities enable drag-and-drop rotating and drill-down of data without leaving a dashboard. Functional maps reveal geospatial relationships in an intuitive, visually compelling way. The session will feature a live demonstration showing new features in Oracle Business Intelligence 11g, as well as an informative presentation on the following key learning points:

  • See new interactive visualizations in a dashboard
  • See new OLAP capabilities
  • See the creation of a dashboard with drillable maps
  • See how maps enable unique insights into your business
  • See how maps interact with other components in the dashboard
  • Learn about the mapping data used in Oracle Business Intelligence 11g

Fast Complex BI Analysis with Oracle OLAP

Presented by Dan Vlamis

Oracle Database 11g OLAP provides several new features that can be used to enhance performance of Oracle-based data warehouses. In addition, while providing a complete summary management capability, it can add additional calculation capabilities. Views are automatically created that allow standard SQL to access the original data, as well as any additional measures. By placing the calculations in the database, all of your business rules and measures can be securely stored in the database. All of this content can be accessed with any application, including Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Oracle Application Express, Oracle Discoverer, BI Publisher, Oracle SQL Developer, as well as non-Oracle tools.

ODTUG Soup to Nuts Presentation - Accelerate your Data Warehouse with Oracle OBIEE, OLAP, and Essbase

Presented by Chris Claterbos

Sunday, April 10 1:50pm - 2:35pm ODTUG Session

Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) is the industry leading BI reporting solution. Oracle's strategy with it's OLAP servers is to bring these core OLAP advantages into the data warehouse. This is achieved by using the newest features of OBIEE11g, to expose the key capabilities of Oracle OLAP and/or Oracle Essbase. Putting these together you have a Data Warehouse Solution that is capable of providing answers to questions from a single source of "Truth" faster than any other platform. This solution can scale from hundreds of users to thousands to bring the answers to the entire company not just a select few.

This presentation will provide an overview of the products and the architecture. A detailed implementation roadmap will be presented along with results for several recently implemented solutions. A live demonstration will be provided that will construct OLAP cubes, load the data, create the OBIEE Metadata and present web reports from beginning to end in minutes not months.

Outline

  • Oracle OLAP Server Overview: OLAP option and Essbase
  • OBIEE 11g Architecture
  • OLAP Features in OBIEE11g "Why is it so special?"
  • Process of Using OLAP in OBIEE - Accelerate the Metadata Build Process
  • Demonstration
  • Q&A

Presented by Tim Vlamis

Tuesday, April 12 10:30am - 11:30am 224 Lab Technical Session BI/Data Warehousing/EPM

Maps convey dense multi-dimensional relationships in data faster and more intuitively than any other graphical display methodology. Access to accurate properly displayed information is critical in a competitive environment. Maps are now built-in to OBIEE 11g as a native view and make data visualization through maps available to all users. This lab will show attendees how to:

  • add maps to their dashboards
  • identify customers and unique locations on maps
  • use continuous fill binning with map regions and areas
  • use maps as a selection tool
  • use point of interest data (POIs) to uncover business insights
  • represent multi-dimensional data via maps
  • learn best practice data visualization techniques

Oracle BI 11.1.1.5 Released - Changes and New Features

Presented by:Dan Vlamis

Oracle Business Intelligence 11g was a huge release. When OBIEE 11g was introduced, the font size had to be so small to fit all of the important new features on one PowerPoint slide, that it was unreadable. Now, in May 2011, Oracle has issued the first patch release for OBIEE 11g, version 11.1.1.5.0. Arguably, the biggest news on this release is that it is the first patch release since 11g was launched with version 11.1.1.3 in August, 2010 (11.1.1.4 was skipped). For those that were waiting for the first patch release, you no longer have that excuse for waiting to move to 11g of OBIEE.

Other notable features in version 11.1.1.5.0 include:

  • Full support for the Apple iPad
  • Full support for OLAP sources including Essbase and Oracle OLAP
  • Support for Oracle BI Applications release 7.9.6.3
  • New support for Oracle TimesTen, MS SQL Server Analytic Services, and SAP BW
  • Reduced memory requirements for Weblogic and streamlined install process
  • 64-bit BI Admin Tool
  • New visualizations in the BI Admin tool

In this BIWA TechCast, Dan Vlamis, President of Vlamis Software Solutions, Inc. and BIWA Board member will show off several of these and other new features in a live demonstration. Dan will also briefly touch on features introduced in OBIEE 11.1.1.3, including new visualizations, Action Framework, map views, and OLAP-style interaction. Dan will be joined by Oracle product management so they can answer questions you may have on these features and other topics related to Oracle Business Intelligence.
