Excel Unleashed: Enabling Oracle OLAP for Enterprise BI

Presented by Brian Terry

Microsoft Excel is the most pervasive BI product. Oracle OLAP is a powerful multi-dimensional BI engine right in your Oracle Database. This session demonstrates how this cost effective database option allows any analytical enterprise user to directly employ this engine for fully interactive business intelligence from Excel. No special training is required—it's just pivot tables—no new software to learn. The solution described uses a small driver to enable Excel's multi-dimensional queries to translate directly into Oracle OLAP access. There is no complicated middle tier. We will present customer examples and the surprising benefits they have encountered by empowering end users to access their data warehouse data directly from Excel.

Visualizing OLAP Data With Multiple Products

Presented by Dan Vlamis

When business people want to perform analysis, they need data that is aggregated and broken down by some sort of dimensions. While relational databases can aggregate this data on the fly, they often are not fast enough. The common approach to solving this problem is to store data in some sort of multi-dimensional cube structure. The Oracle database can store this data inside the Oracle database using a natural structure called a cube.

Cubes are natural ways for data to be stored, especially when users want to visualize data using dimensions such as TIME, GEOGRAPHY, or PRODUCT, or any other dimensions that users want to perform analyses on. In this presentation, we will briefly describe cube data in Oracle OLAP and then focus on ways that cube data can be visualized. We will show multiple products including Oracle BI, as well as other products that can access OLAP data via Simba's MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP, such as Microsoft Excel, arcplan, DeltaMaster, and many others. Come see Oracle OLAP in action using several different visualization tools.

AWS For Oracle - How we Train on the Cloud

Presented by Jonathan Clark

Hands-on training is a great way to provide training. But how do you provide hands-on training to a group of IT professionals on the intricacies of enterprise-class server environment? Providing only one training server is fraught with the danger of one student bringing down the system for everyone. Providing servers for each attendee can be very complicated and expensive. We will demonstrate how you can use any typical classroom computer to provide training for even the most hardware-hungry of enterprise software by using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). We will go over how to use the EC2 environment and the methods we use to prepare our training environments to make them bullet-proof, even with the most curious of class attendees.
